EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing) is an evidence based therapy modality developed by Francine Shapiro to heal from trauma & distressing situations & events. Information is reprocessed emotionally, somatically & cognitively. 

First, you will identify a negative cognition you struggle with & draw attention to a distressing event related to this cognition. You will describe the worst image, belief, and body sensations related to this event. We will then identify a positive cognition that you wish you could personify. Bilateral (left-to-right) eye movements, sounds, or taps are then incorporated. After each set, I will check in to see what you notice. You will likely experience changes in images, sensations, feelings, or beliefs throughout the session. This process is repeated until the event associated with your negative cognition becomes less disturbing. EMDR also incorporates mindfulness elements & strength-based/resourcing activities. It can be a bit confusing to read about but makes much more sense once we get started.
